Music..I've never spoken about it here as such...So, today, am going to basically discuss about music and how it's creating an impact on us.
Music, is undeniably, a thing which we cannot live without. Be it buses, trains, airplanes or even queues, everyone's wired in with earphones and headphones. In fact, it has become a fashion statement and some sort of a trend now...
Nowadays, particularly the youth, are big fans of western music. They prefer to listen to those rock and metal English bands. But we must also realize that music is severely affecting us and our mental state of mind.
So, how does music really affect us?
A Bnet article states that, "We are surrounded by music, yet most people don't realize the vast impact it has on our everyday mental, physical, and spiritual health. Modern researchers delving into why and how music affects our minds and bodies have come up with some startling facts. For instance, music creates changes in metabolism, circulation, blood volume, pulse, blood pressure, and our moods. Doris Soibelman, author of Therapeutic and Industrial Uses of Music, claims that nearly every organ in the body responds to music."
Music can make us cry and laugh. It can even calm us or make us as violent as possible. Research studies have shown that music affects our moods, feelings, mentalities, emotions and even attitudes.
What am really trying to say is...
We need to be aware of what music we are exposed to. Listening to heavy, rock music can make us go violent and aggressive. At the same time, peaceful and soothing melodies can calm us and can help to improve our concentration abilities.
We are what we listen to. So, we must know and we must be able to judge and filter our musical preferences. Now we shall discuss how our musical mindsets and preferences, as Indians are constantly changing...
According to me, Indian classical music is eternal and soothing whereas our latest music with all sorts of beats is mostly fleeting and thematic. The DJ music beats with western lyrics add tremendous speed to those latest Bollywood numbers. I am not saying that western influence is spoiling our pristine Indian music... It's just that these English lyrics are making us forget our culture and heritage. Many of the musicians will agree when I say that music is a very powerful tool to control our mental state of mind because of its musical sounds and rhythms.
Thus, listening to hard, heavy metal rock music will definitely not gift us peace, silence and serenity. Instead, it will turn us into aggressive and violent beasts. If we go by modern trends, a time shall come when Indian music will no longer be Indian, but will be full of western music and lyrics.
Let us not forget our Indian roots.
